The people behind
the bell.
A kitchen is only as honest as the hands in it. This is the story of the room on Petmeza, the team that runs it now, and chef Marios — the cook who keeps almost seventy years of recipes from drifting.
Almost seventy years at one address
This room on Petmeza 5 has been a working kitchen since 1956, back when Koukáki was a district of printers, tailors and civil servants and the taverna fed all of them without asking questions about budgets. When the Acropolis Museum opened two blocks away in 2009, the world arrived. The kitchen stayed a kitchen.
Today Cookaki is run by the Little Noe team — a small Athenian hospitality group with a deep respect for the neighbourhood places it works in. The changes they've made are quiet and deliberate: better olive oil, more vegetables, a lighter hand on the technique, a wine list of small Greek producers — and a kitchen still small enough to recognise the regulars on a Sunday.
Chef Marios
Marios leads the line at Cookaki as part of the Little Noe team, alongside Dimitris and Themis. His cooking is rooted where all good Greek food is — in tavernas, in professional kitchens, and in a grandmother's home — and he brings all three to the pass: the discipline of a fine-dining kitchen, the generosity of a neighbourhood taverna, and the memory of how things are supposed to taste.
Guests notice him. "Special and delicious creations from the very friendly Chef Marios," one wrote of an evening here — praising the kind of playful, confident cooking that respects tradition without being trapped by it. Day to day, that means the classics done properly — moussaka, pastítsio, slow-braised meat of the day — and a rotating set of specials where the kitchen has its fun.
"We honour our heritage by cooking with integrity — interweaving the old recipes with a little metabolic wisdom and the kind of care that nourishes both body and soul."
Three ideas, since the beginning.
Integrity of ingredients
Greek extra-virgin olive oil, flower of salt, bio dairy, vegetables from the local laïkí. If we wouldn't eat it at home, it doesn't reach your plate.
Metabolic wisdom
Traditional flavour, modern execution. Less butter, more olive oil; more vegetables and legumes; lighter techniques that let you walk back to the museum, not nap in the park.
Memory through taste
A great Greek meal stays with you — not just for the evening, but for the whole trip. We cook to be remembered. Everything else is detail.
Trusted by locals and travellers
We'd rather let the room speak than market ourselves. Cookaki holds 4.9 ★ across over 400 Google reviews and 4.9 ★ on Tripadvisor, and on a Sunday at 14:00 there's usually a short queue of neighbours — the surest review a Greek kitchen can earn. Read more about the kitchen's sourcing and ingredients, or see where we sit near the Acropolis and in Koukáki.
We're also hiring. If you love Greek food and want to work in a kitchen that still does things properly, write to info@littlenoe.com.
Pull up a chair.
The recipes are old, the welcome is warm, and the address hasn't changed since 1956. Come taste what almost seventy years of practice tastes like.
